On the 20-21st of May, Solution Plant Hire attended the CIVENEX trade show as an exhibitor.
One of the most well regarded trade shows from days gone by, CIVENEX is described as Australia’s Premier Infrastructure Expo.
Marking its 60th year, CIVENEX is the Institute of Public Works Engineering of Australasia (NSW Division) annual showpiece featuring new and innovative solutions for Public Works, Local Government and Corporate clients.
The popularity of this event has always been in the foot traffic and high-numbers of quality potential buyers. Buyers in this case including private developers, Australian Local Government, Public Works and other private contractors i.e. the strategic decision makers on large scale projects for construction and development.
The team at Solution attended enthusiastically, to take stock of the great new projects are underway; as well as to connect with potential clients and fellow suppliers in the building and construction industry.
One key take-away this year was a feeling that the show seems to be becoming slower and smaller each year. This year in particular seemed to consist of primarily regional council procurement managers, and very few local contractors, a significant shift from a number of years ago.
Additionally, it seemed obvious that the number of exhibitors has also decreased. At least half the number of exhibitors turned up that we’ve grown used to expecting. Which begs the question: what’s going on here?
Do trade shows still have value? Or are trade shows fast becoming a thing of the past?
In our view, it is still vital to be present and connect wherever possible. Food for thought though about the mode for business development in civil construction – is more innovation now required on our part?
