All hands on deck for Storm Clean Ups.
On the 21st April 2015 the Newcastle and Hunter regions were hit by severe storms. The region was left with widespread destruction, some of which required urgent attention. Other damage caused by the storm would require a more planned approach to repair, like the damage the storm caused to many of the waterways.
The Challenge:
The Roads and Maritime Services was given the task to move and place 12,500T of rock and ballast stone into the damaged drains and waterways around the Hunter Expressway. This job has been estimated to take up to 8 months in total.
Due to the remote and tight access locations where the rock and ballast stone was to be placed, they had to start looking into options to move the huge tonnage aside from trucks. This was when Mal Gregory got in touch with the Solution Plant Hire Newcastle team.
The Solution:
Solution Plant Hire are currently the only NSW Dry Hire provider to have a 12T Bergmann Site Dumper in our fleet. The Bergmann Site Dumper is unique with both the capacity it can carry and with its unique swivel operator stand feature – where the driver can swivel a full 360 degrees; making reversing a whole lot simpler.
The Bergmann was the obvious choice for a job of this magnitude. In order to get the job done the Bergmann would have to face all the conditions which had made it impossible for trucks to gain entry; from narrow roads to rough and hilly terrain – which it would be able to handle without issue!
Delivering the Solution
The team in Newcastle kicked into gear to arrange the Bergmann for the job. Due to the length of the hire – approximately 3 months to begin with then a further period in 2017 – scheduled services would be required to ensure the equipment was maintained correctly and therefore would avoid any downtime from equipment failure. Scheduled RDOs were due to occur and so the services were locked in for these days to avoid any disturbance to the job.
The job is still on-going, but Mal has been impressed with the equipment and how it is getting the job done! He is particularly impressed with the enclosed cab and swivel bucket feature allowing the operator to safely “reverse” the dumper.
